09.30.11 RYAN HORTON LIVE WORSHIP SESSION RECAP

Awesome!  That one word alone can describe the whole event.  It was an intimate night of worship with guest artists Nirva Ready, Seth Ready, and producer Matt Edwards.  The audience, consisting of old friends, family, and pastors that have supported us over the years along with a contingent of Master's Commision students, immersed themselves in worship as well as a discussion panel following the worship session itself.  Check out the experience in its entirety by watching the video below...

08.03.11 BACK 2 LIFE SUMMER TOUR WRAP UP

The Back 2 Life Summer Tour is coming to a close.  It's been a great run this summer covering legs in Florida (Miami, New Port Richey, and Lake Alfred) and the Eastern U.S. (Bronx, NY, Buffalo, NY, Harrisburg, VA, Richmond, VA, Piqua, OH, Cincinnati, OH, and Charleston, SC) consisting of 11 dates.  Did we mention...TONS OF DRIVING???!!!  Nonetheless, the entire trip was a blast.  Loads of ministry.  Meeting and hanging out with great people.  Lots of local eats.  Even a little side trip to Niagara Falls.

We're so thankful to all of the people that had us out and to all of the people that came out to the shows and spent their precious time with us.  God really hooked up some awesome moments and we're just thankful to be a part of it.

05.13.11 FREE MUSIC FRIDAYS: G-86 FEAT. RYAN HORTON "ON STAGE"

According to legend (and slasher movies starring weirdos with extra long razor fingernail gloves), Friday the 13th spells gloom and doom.  Well...while not as bloody, gory, and frightening, today does mark the sad end of our 2011 Free Music Fridays series.

G-86 closes it out with his 2009 track, "On Stage," featuring Ryan Horton.  Recorded and released on a local level prior to his La Familia Muzik signing, G-86 enlisted the aid of Ryan Horton to round out the track's vocal arrangement.  As with his other pre-L.F.M. songs, "On Stage" never saw a full-album release nor made the Greetings Earthlings compilation project as the track was tucked away to make room for newer (and fresher) G-86 material.

05.06.11 FREE MUSIC FRIDAYS: SYD "FRONTLINE"

Free Music Fridays is rapidly approaching its end, coming to a close next Friday, May 13 (ooooh Friday the 13th).  Still, we have 2 more free songs for your face!!!  SYD's "Frontline" is our showcased track of the week.

This particular track is a suuuuuuuper throwback rewinding all the way to 2008.  "Frontline," produced by former L.F.M. rap/reggaeton artist Carlito P., was a submission for SYD's second solo project, The Hunger's Back.  With the latin influence of Carlito P.'s production, SYD delivered a Caribbean-charged dance track, even creating his own little non-dance, the sidewalk.  "Frontline" never made the album, however, as the sound was considered to be drastically different from the rests of The Hunger's Back submissions and therefore was shelved and locked away in our digital musical vault.

04.29.11 FREE MUSIC FRIDAYS: DAVID "I'LL BE LEAVING"

To combat the rise of gasoline prices and goods affected by their dramatic increase, La Familia Muzik has developed the Free Music Fridays program to encourage the development of happy ears and loud singing-into-the-wind moments while you drive with your window down to avoid the use of the gas guzzling AC.

This week we roll out "I'll Be Leaving" by La Familia Muzik artist and co-owner, David.  One of the initial batch of songs he submitted for the Greetings Earthlings project, "I'll Be Leaving" featured the production of fellow L.F.M. co-owner, Don Tony.  The song showcased an experimental vibe with a dash of pop and hip-hop flavor.  A favorite among the label's inner circle of artists, the track received a push to make the project but was eventually cut under David's own suggestion.

The exclusive music keeps rolling out here on Free Music Fridays.  This week, we bring to you a track from 2009 by G-86 featuring H.G.A. member and fellow Tampa hip-hop artist, Seckond Chaynce entitled "Pressin' On."

"Pressin' On" was yet another of G-86's pre-L.F.M. compositions.  Initially slated to be released locally as a part of a mixtape project he was working on in the summer of 2009, plans changed when talks began to sign him on as a new artist under La Familia Muzik.  The mixtape, along with the track "Pressin' On," was eventually shelved as G-86 turned his attention towards the Greetings Earthlings project.

04.18.11 GREETINGS EARTHLINGS TOP TEN ALBUM OF 2010?

No, we didn't chart on any Billboard rankings or even make a Top 10  Time Magazine list.  Last night at the Hype Radio Fest 2 with popular radio personality Chris Chicago of the Hype Radio Show and his promotions director J. Hollis, the two men stated from the stage that they felt that the La Familia Muzik compilation Greetings Earthlings was a Top 10 album over the course of 2010...at least in their opinion.

While it's not about competition by any means, man was it encouraging to hear those words from two highly respected men within the industry especially considering the amount of music they receive and hear over the course of a year.

So while we may not be selling a gazillion records and packing out arenas to the brim, we are surely reaching our goal of creating quality music that effectively communicates the gospel in a relevant format to a broad listening audience.  Thanks Chris and J for the love and for spinning our record on a regular basis throughout 2010!

04.15.11 FREE MUSIC FRIDAYS: ADAM GILLEY "RESCUE ME"

Free Music Fridays is here.  Hopefully the 7 day wait wasn't too much for you.  This week we bring to you a track from pop vocalist and new La Familia Muzik artist Adam Gilley.

Adam Gilley signed on with La Familia Muzik in 2010.  When we first came in contact with Adam (back in 2008), he had recorded a few hip-hop/r&b fusion tracks.  He followed this up with a feature on SYD's, The Hunger's Back project in which he sang the hook to the  pop/techno "Everything You Are" track.  From that moment on, Adam began reforming his sound into a pop/techno mesh, abandoning emceeing and focusing on his singing/songwriting talents.  What followed would become the very songs that would lead to his signing with La Familia Muzik.  "Rescue Me" is one of those two songs.

SYD invades Free Music Fridays this week with a track from his dredlock-era entitled "Jukebox."  The very first of SYD's submissions for Greetings Earthlings, "Jukebox" was considered more of a warmup (for both SYD and David, producer of the track) to hopefully spark creative juices as the La Familia Muzik team began recording more tracks that would in turn make the final album cut.

04.04.11 VERSE SET TO RELEASE NEW SINGLE "LAY MY LIFE DOWN"

In 2010, wife of La Familia Muzik artist and audio engineer Mike "Verse" Mills, Loralee, was placed on a heart transplant waiting list after the effect of her congenital heart defect caused her quality of life to dramatically decline.

With this turn of unexpected events, the Mills family, in cooperation with Shands Hospital located in Gainesville, FL, created a fund to assist with both medical costs and living expenses that the family would be faced with in light of the lengthy recovery time and seriousness involved with such a surgery.

To confront this challenge head on, Verse is set to release his first solo single since 2006 entitled "Lay My Life Down" featuring fellow La Familia Muzik artist G-86.  Produced by Swade Beatz and sampling a line (penned by David, artist/co-owner of La Familia Muzik) from the L.F.M. Greetings Earthlings lead single "I Give It To You," Verse is hoping the song will do much more than raise money for his wife's heart transplant, but rather, fulfill a greater purpose by first creating music that points to his family's hope and foundation while at the same time raising global awareness about congenital heart defects.

Free Music Fridays is coming at you today in a big way with the big man himself, G-86, with the song "He's Alive."

"He's Alive" has been a part of G-86's live repertoire since 2009 (though he has been phasing it out as of late).  Created prior to his signing with La Familia Muzik, the song (and particularly G-86's performance and delivery of it) was a catalyst for the label reaching out to him to join the L.F.M. roster.  Delivered throughout numerous prisons, concerts, and even so far as Africa, "He's Alive" proclaims a defining tenet of our Christian faith.

3.18.11 FREE MUSIC FRIDAYS: SYD "STAY AWAY"

It's like Mother's Day except it's in March, and it's for everyone even if you've never birthed or reared another human being!  Um....something like that.  Anyways, Free Music Fridays is doing it big this week bringing to you "Stay Away" by the once-dredlocked SYD.

"Stay Away," produced by Don Tony, was one of four song submissions SYD tossed towards the L.F.M. big wigs way for the Greetings Earthlings compilation in 2010.  Co-owners, Don Tony and David Sihombing, were both split  on having the song placed on the album (David the "for" and Don Tony the "against").  In fact, "Stay Away" had actually dwelled on the album tracklisting until the very last cut as one of three SYD songs that were to appear on the project.  However, after Don Tony had decided he wanted David's track, "Crash Me Down," to close out Greetings Earthlings, one song needed to be trimmed to fit within the pre-determined 15 song limit that had been set for the album.  "Stay Away" gracefully placed itself on the chopping block and WHAM!!!

Here's another installment from the Hope Alive 2010 missions trip to Swaziland, Africa.  G-86 performs the Greetings Earthlings single "I Give It To You" in front of a group of kids in the village of Simunye.  Check out all those smiles at the :40 to 1:00 mark.  It's why we do what we do.

Check out this footage from Feb. 26, 2011 with the entire La Familia Muzik roster performing at the Flame Concert in Orlando, FL at H2O.  The house was packed.  Flame ripped it later on.   Every artist for that matter rocked it out (two thumbs up to Watchman, T-Strike, and i-Pryme).  Here's some snippets from our set as well performing "I Give It To You" and "Holy God."  Shouts to DJ Will for coming out from Jacksonville and helping us out on the 1's and 2's and more shouts to Kristen Gilley (Adam's wife) for capturing the footage on her iPhone.  Gotta love technology.  Enjoy the noise...

03.04.11 FREE MUSIC FRIDAYS: G-86 "DO YOU KNOW WHAT YOU'RE WORTH"

Throughout March and April, LFM will be making available previously unreleased songs from our artists' catalogs every Friday for FREE.  Many of these songs were submissions for the Greetings Earthlings compilation that, for one reason or another, didn't end up making the final album cut.

In 2009 prior to signing with La Familia Muzik, G-86 already had several songs that were released primarily on a local level in the Tampa Bay area.  G-86's "Do You Know What You're Worth" featuring our very own Ryan Horton was recorded and being performed before he was ever approached with an offer to join the label.  It had a become a staple of the G-86 live experience and had become one of his more requested songs in his bookings.  Still, not signing with the label officially until 2010, the song was shelved in favor of totally new and fresh material (that would later find its way onto Greetings Earthlings).

08.04.10 G-86 AND HOPE ALIVE 2010 SWAZILAND, AFRICA MISSIONS TRIP

On September 22, 2010, La Familia Muzik artist G-86 will embark on a missions trip to Swaziland, Africa.  Partnering with Hope Alive 2010, G-86 will be engaging the people of Swaziland beyond much more than the scope of music ministry as they will be delivering supplies, constructing a health clinic, and installing water tanks.  For more information on the Hope Alive organization and the Swaziland Missions Trip, visit www.hopealive2010.com.

Greetings Earthlings continues to garner strong reviews, this time out of The Christian Manifesto by writer Kyle Kiekintveld.  With 4 out of 5 stars, this makes for the fifth album review to give the album such a high rating.  You can read the review HERE.

In addition, La Familia Muzik artists have spilled their guts on several radio and podcast shows as of late.  Our entire artist roster made appearances on Flavor Radio Network's Spice Rack Show hosted by Fudge.  Ryan Horton then followed up with an interview on Fort Wayne, IN based station Remedy FM with J-Mo and Amanda Panda on the All Request Show.  Most recently, David, SYD, and Ryan Horton were interviewed on The House of Slap Radio Show with DJ Anointed out of Sacramento, CA.
